Dormant

Terms of Service

Last updated 7 October 2026.

Dormant is a 3D map of what's happening around campus, starting with the University of Kansas. It is operated by Wituk Works LLC, a Kansas company, and built by a KU student. Using it means agreeing to a few plain rules.

Who this is for

Anyone in Lawrence. You must be at least 13 to make an account. If you're under 21, some events (bar deals, 21+ nights) won't be shown to you; we ask your age for exactly that reason, and we take your word for it.

Your account

One person, one account, your real email. Don't share your sign-in link, don't make an account for somebody else, don't pretend to be someone you're not.

Campus Coins and purchases

Things on Dormant are priced in Campus Coins, a different car for your spot on the map, for example. Coins are bought with real money at 100 Coins = $1.00 (larger packs include bonus coins), and Dormant always shows the exact dollar amount before you pay. On the website you pay through Stripe; in the iPhone app you pay through Apple. What you buy with coins is digital, cosmetic, delivered instantly to your account, and yours for as long as the account exists.

Coins are not money. They have no cash value, never expire, and cannot be transferred, withdrawn, or exchanged for money or anything outside Dormant. Your balance is a licence to spend inside Dormant, not property, and we may change what coins can buy. Coins that are earned rather than bought are never convertible to money or prizes with cash value.

All sales are final. Because coins and the things they buy are delivered the moment you pay, they are non-refundable. If something you paid for doesn't show up on your account, email hello@dormant-app.com and we will fix it. Purchases made through the Apple App Store follow Apple's refund process, not ours. Deleting your account forfeits your coin balance and does not refund purchases.

House builds. A house build (12,999 coins) puts a 3D model of a house on the map for 365 days from the day you buy it. After that it comes off the map and we keep the record. A house can have one build at a time. If we can't build it, your coins come back. Everyone on Dormant can see a house build, while it is being built and once it is done. Only your friends see the name you give it in Settings, or that it is yours.

Supporting Dormant

On the website you can support Dormant with a one-time payment through Stripe. Support helps build Dormant. It is not a donation (Wituk Works LLC is a for-profit company, so it isn't tax-deductible) and not an investment (it gives no ownership, equity, profit share or any other financial interest).

Depending on the amount, a thank-you supporter car drives on the map on the Dormant website, with your name above it unless you ask to keep it private. The supporter car lives on the website only. It is not an item in the Dormant app: it doesn't add a car, coins or anything else to an app account, and cars in the app are unlocked separately. We may change how and where supporter cars appear. Supporter names are checked before they go on the map. We can hide a name that is offensive or pretends to be someone else; your car stays. Support payments are final and are not refunded (see the Refund Policy); if something looks wrong with one, email hello@dormant-app.com.

Pro and the Business plan (organizations)

Verified businesses and organizations can pay for more on the Dormant website, through Stripe. These are sold on the website only, never in the app. Posting events, repeating events, the calendar and your totals stay free.

Pro is $9.99 a month ($3.99 a month for KU student organizations we have verified). It adds photos on your events (up to 3; organizations without Pro post without photos), a top link button in your own words, and your analytics by day and hour. The Business plan is $99.99 a year: we build your place in 3D on the map, and Pro is included for that year.

Renewal. Both renew automatically, Pro every month and the Business plan every year, at the price shown when you signed up, until you cancel. We email you before a yearly renewal. You can cancel any time from Billing on the website (or the link in any billing email); you keep what you paid for until the end of that month or year, and nothing more is charged.

Free trials. If we give you a free trial of Pro, you add a card when it starts and nothing is charged during the trial. When it ends, Pro renews at the regular price unless you cancel before, and Stripe emails you a reminder before it ends.

Business plan builds are for a business or organization's own place: a storefront, a venue, a chapter house, a church, an apartment complex. A home isn't eligible (homes go on the map through the app), and we check every request before we approve it. You're charged only once we approve your build, before we start modeling it. If we can't build your place, you aren't charged. If a payment fails, Stripe retries it for up to two weeks and you keep everything meanwhile; after that the plan ends. When a Business plan ends, your place goes back to a plain grey building on the map. We keep the 3D model, so it comes back if you return.

Links and photos. Your top link must go to your own website, menu, tickets or reservations, and photos must be yours to post and show your event or place honestly. Photos are checked before anyone sees them. We can remove a link or photo that breaks these rules or the rules under "What you post".

Analytics are totals only: how many students opened your events or said Going, and when. Never who.

Charges are not refunded for part of a month or year (see the Refund Policy); if something looks wrong with a charge, email hello@dormant-app.com.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account any time from Settings. It's immediate and permanent. See the Privacy Policy for exactly what goes.

What you post

Events, flyer photos, and anything else you add to Dormant should be real and accurate. We run text through a moderation check before it's stored; content that harasses, threatens, sexualises minors, or is otherwise the kind of thing that check flags won't go up, and repeatedly trying to post it can get your account removed.

A photo you add to an event must be yours, or one you have permission to use. By adding it you let Dormant show it on that event. Every event photo is checked automatically before anyone else sees it; a public event's photo is also reviewed by us. Public events (seen by everyone on Dormant) and KU Campus events (seen only by KU students on Dormant) are posted by verified organizations and must keep it clean (no swearing). By picking a place for an event you confirm you have permission to host it there. Private events are only seen by the people invited or who have the event's link.

If you photograph a flyer and submit it: you're telling us you found it somewhere you were allowed to be, and you're giving us permission to look at it, pull the event details out of it, and store the photo so an admin can check your submission. We don't publish the photo itself on the public map, only the facts (what, where, when) and an icon we make for the listing. If a flyer's design turns out to belong to someone who doesn't want it used even this way, tell us (hello@dormant-app.com) and we'll take it down and figure out why it got through.

Events we didn't write

Most events on the map come from the KU Events Calendar, KU Engage, and Ticketmaster. They are public listings we didn't create and can't guarantee. Times change, events get cancelled, venues make mistakes. We link back to the original source; check there if it matters. If you're going to something and it changes or gets cancelled, we'll show you what we know, when we know it; emailing you about it is planned for later.

Text messages

Dormant texts you only if you gave us your number and ticked "Text me my invite and launch news" on the Early Access form: your invite and launch news, from Dormant's number. How often varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to stop at any time, or HELP for help, or email hello@dormant-app.com. We never call you, and we never sell your number. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Our Privacy Policy says what we keep about your number.

The invite system

Every student gets a personal invite link. We track who invited whom and how many distinct devices have opened your link, because that's how you unlock adding your own events. Trying to fake that (bots, refreshing your own link from different browsers, anything like that) voids the unlock and can get your account removed.

What we can do

We can remove content, suspend an account, or shut down a feature if it's being abused, if we're asked to by KU, or if keeping it running isn't something one person can reasonably keep doing. We'll try to say why.

No guarantees

Dormant is run by one person. We do our best to keep event times accurate and the map running, but we can't promise it's always right or always up. Use your own judgement before you rely on anything here for something that matters, especially a flyer-scanned event nobody's verified yet.

Copyright and reporting stolen content

If something on Dormant (a photo, a flyer, an event listing) uses your work without permission, tell our designated copyright agent. Under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, a notice should include:

  • your name, address, phone number, and email;
  • what work you believe was copied;
  • where it appears on Dormant (a link or a screenshot);
  • a statement that you believe in good faith the use isn't authorized by you, your agent, or the law;
  • a statement that your notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you own the work or are authorized to act for the owner;
  • your physical or electronic signature (typing your full name is fine).

Designated agent: Nathan Wituk, Wituk Works LLC, 3344 N Flat Creek Circle, Wichita, KS 67205. Email hello@dormant-app.com. Phone (785) 813-1152. Registered with the U.S. Copyright Office, DMCA-1081264.

We take reported content down while we look into it. If your content was taken down and you believe that was a mistake, reply to the same address with a counter-notice and we'll follow the law's process for restoring it. Accounts that repeatedly post other people's work without permission are removed.

Changes

We'll update these terms as Dormant changes, and change the date at the top when we do. Using Dormant after that means you've accepted the update.

Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Kansas.
